A true 2K primer with no activation step (H2)
Car-Rep 2K Epoxy Primer Sealer uses the same Wise 2K® technology as Car-Rep's clear coats: the resin and a deactivated hardener share one compartment and only cross-link once sprayed. There's nothing to mix or activate — shake and spray, and use the can across multiple sessions rather than racing a pot-life clock.
Built for corrosion resistance and adhesion (H2)
This is an epoxy-based primer sealer, formulated with anti-corrosion pigments to create a humidity- and chemical-resistant barrier. It's designed as an adhesion bridge: putties and fillers can go directly on top without sanding first, and it can be top-coated wet-on-wet with solvent- or waterborne basecoats once touch dry.
Wide substrate compatibility (H2)
The manufacturer lists it as suitable for bare aluminum, steel, and galvanized steel, OEM finishes, old paint, most plastics, carbon fibre, and other metals including copper and brass. It isn't suitable for Styrofoam. As with any primer, test on a small area first, especially on plastics or carbon fibre where adhesion can vary by substrate.
Safety — read before use (H2)
This product's Safety Data Sheet carries the signal word Danger. It is classified as:
- An extremely flammable aerosol
- Suspected of causing cancer (Carcinogenicity, Category 2)
- A skin sensitizer (Category 1), with potential for allergic skin reaction
- An eye and skin irritant
- A simple asphyxiant, with the potential to displace oxygen in poorly ventilated spaces
- A cause of drowsiness or dizziness with overexposure
The manufacturer's PPE requirements are more involved than a typical clear coat: a respirator fitted with a filter for gases, vapours, and particles; chemical-resistant gloves (LLDPE, rated for at least 480 minutes' breakthrough time); splash-resistant goggles; and antistatic, fireproof clothing. Spray only in a well-ventilated area, away from heat and ignition sources, and read the full label and SDS before use.
Key Features & Benefits
| Feature | Why it matters | Customer benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Wise 2K®: resin and deactivated hardener in one compartment | The hardener activates only when sprayed | Nothing to mix or activate; shake and spray |
| Unlimited pot life (manufacturer's claim) | Standard 2K products work within a limited activation window | Use the can across multiple sessions with no wasted product |
| Anti-corrosion pigments | Bare metal needs a barrier against humidity and chemicals | A protective seal against rust before topcoating |
| No sanding needed before filler | Sanding a primer coat adds a step and can thin the film | Apply putty or filler directly once the primer is down |
| Wet-on-wet topcoating once touch dry | Waiting for a full cure between coats slows a repair down | Move to basecoat sooner, once touch dry |
| Broad substrate list: metal, most plastics, carbon fibre | Different repair jobs need different substrate compatibility | One primer across several materials on the same project |
| Aerosol, no equipment required | A spray gun and compressor aren't always available | DIY-friendly application for small to mid-size repairs |

Use Cases
- Bare metal repairs: sealing and protecting sanded-back steel or aluminum before filler or basecoat
- Plastic and carbon fibre panels: priming trim, bumpers, or carbon fibre parts ahead of painting
- Multi-material projects: one primer across metal, plastic, and carbon fibre on the same job
- Time-pressed repairs: wet-on-wet application to keep a job moving without waiting for a full cure between every stage
Who Is This For?
Automotive DIYers and professionals doing bare-metal or mixed-substrate repairs who want epoxy-level corrosion resistance without activating a can. It suits anyone equipped with the full PPE the SDS calls for — respirator, chemical-resistant gloves, splash goggles, and protective clothing. It isn't for anyone unable to work in a well-ventilated space, or unable to use the required respiratory protection.
